Saint Nino  2020-2022  oil on canvas  54x48 in.  (137x122 cm)
Christianity was first preached in Georgia by the 1st Century. It became the state religion of Kartli (Georgia)  in 319 AD. The conversion of Kartli to Christianity is credited to a Greek lady named St. Nino of Cappadocia. Legend surrounding her speaks of St. Nino walking and holding  the cross, which she assembled from a vine stem, bound in the middle with her own hair. However, the Georgians' new found faith was to place them permanently on the front line of conflict with the Islamic world upon its borders. By creating a happier looking Cross, from my designed LuvBomb (Anti-Covids),   I intended  to "remove" the centuries' old image of a bleeding Christ nailed on cross and the traumas caused by religions, as well as myths that govern the human mind and damage caused by the current pandemic.
